teylor cohen uc irvine school of nursing student giving day

On Giving Day, the community was moved by the story of veteran, foster father and nursing student Teylor Cohen.

This year’s Giving Day on May 18 was the most successful one yet for current and future students at the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing.

Although the goal was to raise enough funds to provide every incoming prelicensure student with a Fundamental Skills Lab tote, the community gave in a variety of ways.

In addition to funding 100 totes, donors also gave community challenge gifts, established a Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) endowment and supported the School of Nursing Emergency Student Fund.

The community was moved by the story of veteran, foster father and nursing student Teylor Cohen.

He too received a donor-sponsored tote upon starting nursing school, something he and his classmates were not expecting.

“I felt so thankful that there were people out there who cared enough to help further our education and professional careers by providing us with tools we need to succeed.”

Cohen graduates this spring, well-prepared to fulfill his dream of becoming an emergency room nurse.

The $50k endowment for Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) students was established by an anonymous donor.

An additional $10k was raised in support of the Nursing Student Emergency Fund, which assists with urgent financial needs that leave students at risk for disenrollment.
