On March 15, 2019, Dr. Susan Tiso and Dr. Tiffany Nielsen presented at the 42nd California Association for Nurse Practitioners (CANP) Educational Conference in San Diego. Their talk was entitled “Precepting 101: Maximizing the Experience for You and Your Student.” The presentation included a description of best practices, clinical pearls, solutions to commonly encountered challenges, and teaching techniques when precepting nurse practitioner students. “We had an engaged audience and the presentation was very well received,” says Nielsen.

Also at the conference, UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing hosted a booth and provided information about the new DNP program to many attendees. In addition, the UCI SON Alumni Association hosted the Annual UCI Alumni Reception. The reception was well-attended, including faculty (Dr. Susan Tiso, Dr. Susie Phillips, Dr. Tiffany Nielsen, Professor Sarah Campbell, and Liz Symanski), DNP Student Affairs Officer Chanelle Guillaume, UCI Nursing alumni, and UCI preceptors. “It was a great evening of networking, reconnecting, and making new friends,” says Nielsen.  “Many alumni expressed interested in giving back to their alma mater and volunteering in various capacities such as teaching, precepting, and mentoring future DNP student projects.”
