Hien “Cathy” Nguyen was a UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing alum who was a pillar of strength and a model of commitment to the nursing profession. In 2018, she completed her family nurse practitioner master’s degree at UCI while battling cancer despite the odds against her. Cathy was devoted to serving those who lacked access to care.

She passed away on July 10, 2020.

In her absence, we celebrate Cathy’s love for nursing and her community by awarding a scholarship to a qualified Doctor of Nursing Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP) graduate nursing student attending UCI.

This scholarship was established by the UCI Nursing Alumni Chapter leadership.
