dawn bounds new faculty assistant professor at uci school of nursingDawn Bounds, PhD, PMHNP-BC

Assistant Professor Dawn Bounds, PhD, PMHNP-BC, comes from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago where she had a joint appointment in the College of Nursing and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Section of Community Behavioral Health.

She is a board-certified psychiatric mental health practitioner. Bounds has worked with children, adolescents, and young adults in a variety of settings, including schools, inpatient and partial hospitalization, homeless shelters and juvenile detention.

Her research is focused on youth risk and resilience and commercial sexual exploitation. She is also interested in the development and delivery of integrative psychiatric-mental health care.

Assistant Clinical Professor Michael Bueno, MSN, RN, CNL, comes from the University of San Francisco Orange County campus, where he was an instructor in the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (ME-MSN).

He has worked in all levels of a hospital, including medical-surgical, telemetry, step-down and as an acute inpatient dialysis RN for patients in oncology, emergency/trauma, intensive care, psychiatric and mother/baby units.

Mike Bueno is a certified clinical nurse leader (CNL) and is currently studying for his Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in nursing research with a focus on caregiver health for the Alzheimer’s and related dementias population at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Angela Jun assistant clinical instructor new faculty uci school of nursingAngela Jun, DNP, FNP-BC

Clinical Professor Angela Jun, DNP, FNP-BC, ACHPN, comes from Azusa Pacific University.

She is a board-certified family nurse practitioner and hospice/palliative nurse practitioner. She has worked in primary care settings, taking care of children to seniors with various acute and chronic care conditions.

Dr. Jun’s past research has centered around pediatric patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her current research interest is palliative care among the geriatric population.

Candice Whealon new faculty clinical coordinator dnp program uci school of nursingCandice Whealon, MSN

Candice Whealon, MSN, joins us as the new clinical coordinator for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program.

Whealon comes from Cal State Fullerton, where she was part-time faculty. She is currently studying for her DNP through the University of Pittsburgh and anticipates graduation in August 2021.

Whealon earned her family nurse practitioner degree from the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing seven years ago. She is currently president of the UCI Alumni Association Nursing Chapter and the 2013 Class Representative and president-elect of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners Orange County Chapter.
