UCI Medical Center and School of Nursing Staff worked together for many hours to get UCI’s first drive-thru screening clinic up and running in 4 days! These efforts were led by SON Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor Dr. Susanne Phillips.

There are 26,742 actively practicing nurse practitioners (NP) in the State of California. Dr. Susanne Phillips, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, aboard-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP), is one of the 5.1 percent of all California nurse practitioners who hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. She also serves as a primary care provider.

The DNP degree is the highest educational standard of nursing practice excellence and those with a DNP degree are often located in high need, high poverty areas – seeing vulnerable patients and providing treatment and community resources to restore health. Most important, Dr. Phillips is the UCI Nurse Leader who positively changed the lives of our community by working with a team of highly dedicated UCI Medical Center leadership and staff to organize and manage multiple COVID-19 testing sites. A passionate advocate of the nursing profession, Dr. Phillips is an example of what makes UCI Nursing unique: Our Faculty Practice serve as both instructors and clinicians in the field!

A true Superhero, Dr. Phillips is entrenched in the work as a Health Sciences Clinical Professor and Family Nurse Practitioner. When our community was faced with an unprecedented battle against the coronavirus, she bravely took the call to action and mobilized our nurse practitioner faculty to set up testing sites to meet community demand and address concerns during the pandemic. Dr. Phillip’s commitment to health and wellness, leadership and innovative thinking is now restoring our community’s health during a time when uncertainty is the new norm.
