Theme: Listening and Speaking Otherwise: Encounters at the Edge of Nursing and Philosophy

Join the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing Center for Nursing Philosophy in association with the International Philosophy of Nursing Society (IPONS) for the 28th International Nursing Philosophy Conference.

The HYBRID conference will take place physically at the University of California, Irvine in sunny, coastal Southern California, USA, as well as virtually via Zoom.

Abstract Guidelines

Submit your abstracts for poster, podium, and panel presentations. All topics are welcome that connect nursing and philosophy in some way. All sessions will be organized as conversations.

Individual abstracts are welcome. Individual abstracts will be placed in a panel with aligned themes or topics.  If your abstract is accepted as an individual podium presentation, we will connect you with other accepted presenters in your assigned session to facilitate presenting your scholarship in a conversational mode. Moderators will facilitate this process.

Symposium panel submissions are also welcome. Submit a proposed title, an overview abstract, and 2-4 individual abstracts meeting the symposium panel theme. We will review symposium panel submissions and accept them as a whole.

Maximum Word Count: 350

Abstracts submitted before December 15, 2025 will receive notification of acceptance by December 31, 2025. All other notifications will occur by April 30, 2026.

This hybrid, multidisciplinary conference aims to generate conversations between philosophy and nursing through a series of invited panel conversations and events. Cutting-edge peer-reviewed abstract panels on current scholarship and ideas in nursing philosophy will also be featured.

We will be updating this space periodically with more details as they become available. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to the conference chairs, Miriam Bender and Jess Dillard-Wright with any questions or comments.
