Biography
Dr. Leanne Burke has been a registered nurse for 25 years, the majority of which was spent in caring for childbearing families of all levels of acuity. She sought advanced training in midwifery and found a passion for teaching prelicensure nursing students while teaching a clinical rotation during her MSN program. Teaching allowed her to share her drive to improve the care of all childbearing patients by sharing her knowledge with the students she taught. After teaching in prelicensure programs for over a decade, Leanne returned to school to complete her Doctor of Education in Nursing Education at Southern Connecticut State University where she could advance her training in educational pedagogy and mentor others in their teaching. Dr. Burke’s scholarly interests demonstrate her dual foci of clinical and academic passions, including student success, nursing education, and maternal newborn nursing and doula support to decrease perinatal adverse outcomes. As the Program Director for the BS and MS in Nursing Science Programs, she spends much of her time in administration and teaching theory, clinical, and simulation courses to remain up to date with the most current evidence.
