Biography

Dr. Candice Whealon is the DNP Program Co-Director at the University of California Irvine Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing. She is an Assistant Professor and focuses on nursing research to improve hospital patient outcomes, promote ER nurse wellness, and advance the utilization of advanced practice providers in the emergency room. She obtained her doctorate from University of Pittsburgh with a concentration as a family nurse practitioner and a minor in nursing education. Prior to joining UC Irvine as DNP faculty, she was the West Division Regional Lead Advanced Practice Provider for Envision Physician Services, managing the physician assistants and nurse practitioners of three community emergency departments in Southern California. She is the immediate past president of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners Orange County and the immediate past founding President of the UC Irvine Alumni Association School of Nursing Chapter.
