Curriculum
The DNP-FNP program is a three-year hybrid commitment designed for both BS and MS applicants. Our innovative curriculum combines online learning with strategic on-campus sessions. Students engage in highly accessible asynchronous learning and weekly synchronous online sessions, with strategic on-campus intensives for DNP scholarly project and FNP clinical competency development.
The curriculum provides comprehensive education in organizational and systems leadership, research methods, healthcare policy, interprofessional practice, clinical prevention, and population health, preparing graduates for a multi-faceted approach to healthcare improvement. Practice expertise in family-centered patient care is integrated throughout the program. Students complete 1,020 hours of clinical and professional practice.
Throughout the program, students develop their abilities and apply their knowledge in the DNP Scholarly Project – a capstone project of original work that establishes them as UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing clinical scholars.
Our program emphasizes compassionate, competent nursing care, advocacy for vulnerable populations, planetary health and social justice, and leadership in the evolving healthcare landscape. Through this comprehensive curriculum, we aim to produce nurse leaders who will advance nursing science, champion healthcare access, and lead the next generation of healthcare professionals.
