uc irvine school of nursing assistant professor dawn bounds is a member of a uc system diversity and inclusion collaborativeAssistant Professor Dawn Bounds has been named a member of a UC-systemwide Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Collaborative.

The collaborative, a group of UC system DEI health sciences leaders, will work to advance the 18 recommendations of the UC Health DEI Taskforce report, Disrupting the Status Quo.

Report recommendations

Areas for action in the report include:

  • Social determinants of health: The conditions in which people are born, live, grow, work and age are shaped by distribution of power, money and resources. Unequal distribution creates avoidable differences in health status.
  • Demographic drivers: Underrepresented groups account for nearly half of California’s population, yet the state’s workforce doesn’t reflect its diversity.
  • Diversity of UC Health Sciences students, residents and faculty: Currently, nearly 60% of UC Health sciences faculty are Caucasian while 8% are from underrepresented groups.
  • Diversity improves health: Underrepresented healthcare providers are more likely to serve and practice in underserved communities, increasing access to care and education while improving outcomes.
