Where do you currently work?
UCI Health Gender Diversity Program & Providence ExpressCare
What is your title?
Associate Program Director — UCI Health Gender Diversity Program, family nurse practitioner and vice president of corporate affairs for the state board of directors of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your life?
My concern is for our patients and from other healthcare workers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have had to be at the forefront of COVID by keeping up with the data to ensure accurate information was given to our team.
In my roles, I need to be ready with the best evidence to answer patients and clinicians. I was also one of the first to transition and train others in telehealth. At Providence, we have been offering COVID testing as soon as it was available and now with vaccinations I continue to volunteer at the Orange County sites.
What initially drew you to the nursing profession?
The profession of nursing has always aligned with my personality. I am caring and share my love for humanity through my actions.
Patients seek health care during their time of vulnerability and I take that trust very seriously. I hope to bring a smile to every sacred encounter with my patients.
What do you love most about being a nurse?
To be a nurse has been a dream come true because healthcare should be a basic human right. I am able to provide respectful and dignified care to every person I come into contact with.
In my work with adolescent transgender health, I am able to provide care to a marginalized population and their families. It is my honor to care for the vulnerable. I wish there were more hours in the day so that I could care for so many more! I love the profession of nursing and being a nurse practitioner so much that I have always said that I would work for free every day if I could!
