Thanks for bringing up this topic. 15:44:30 From Wyona Freysteinson : Tragic! 15:44:42 From Nancy Valentine : Barbara 15:45:28 From Robin Narruhn : Iakwe,… And conducting nuclear experiments on Marshallese people - I am not so sure we have vaccine hesitancy but trauma related to medical experimentation 15:45:34 From Veronica Pasha To All Panelists : Message for Dr. Canty - I am a first year PhD student interested in examining transitional care in the 4th trimester particularly for patients of marginalized communities at risk for morbidity. If you have availability to talk further about your work, I’d be very grateful. Thank you kindly. 15:48:43 From Calvin Moorley To All Panelists : Here in the UK we have the Windrush generation from the Caribbean who came in response to a British SOS call to help build the National Health Service, in the last 5yrs the British govt used immigration policies to deport migrants back to the Caribbean, thus removing the historical contribution of black Caribbean people to British health care systems 15:49:40 From Ruth Staus : The history of experimentation on black and brown bodies is one of colonialism. Colonial medicine after the partition of Africa was about experimenting on black bodies to develop treatments to only be used on white bodies. Our current surgical procedures of C-section and vaginal fistula repair were developed through experimentation on enslaved black women, without anesthesia, even though it was available. Once those techniques were perfected they were only available to white women. It is not too surprising that BIPOC are distrustful. 15:50:34 From Kimberley Jones To All Panelists : That mistrust aspect is integral to this conversation…until that is addressed, I fear vaccine hesitancy will continue and result in more harm and death. 15:50:48 From Alison Holman To All Panelists : no surprise that the two groups with the highest rates of refusing the vaccine completely are the Indigenous Americans and Black Americans -- the two groups who experienced systematic state violence in the form of genocidal wars and slavery. 15:53:04 From Rebecca Sanderson To All Panelists : What was the 5th C??? 15:55:02 From Nadia Kazmie : Dr. Hatcher - how should the nursing profession mobilize social media to counter the ‘Nicki Minaj’ effect around vaccine hesitancy? 15:55:24 From Nancy Valentine : Barbara--can you comment on Dr. Joseph Ladapo, Florida new Top Doc who in a hgh stakes state is not advocating public health meaures and vaccines? When we need a man who has high stnading in medicine to lead in one of 2 worse case states for CV-19 deaths, it is troubling to have someone who has a great background, not adocating for best practices. What do you siggest? 15:55:25 From Miriam Bender : 5 C's are confidence and trust, complacency, convenience, communication, context 15:57:01 From Erica Soelling : THANK YOU, DR. HATCHER! 15:57:03 From ALBA LOPEZ : 👏🏽👏🏽 15:57:04 From Claudette Dorsey : Thank you Dr. Hatcher!!! 15:57:06 From Sarah Rodrigues : Thank you Dr Hatcher! 15:57:09 From Kimberley Jones To All Panelists : Thank you!! 15:57:11 From Holly Graham : That was wonderful Dr. Hatcher! Our state rolled out vaccines from a place of supremacy. You couldn't get an appt without computer access and clinics designed for serving BIPOC communities was overrun by European Americans from suburbs and no one did anything about it. This scenario was depicted on Queen Sugar last week. White supremacy rules healthcare. We get the crumbs that have fallen on the floor. Healthcare in the US in unjust! 15:57:17 From Christine Espina To All Panelists : Thank you, Dr. Hatcher! 15:57:17 From atussa behnam shabahang : 🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽 15:57:17 From Caitlin Nye To All Panelists : thank you Dr. Hatcher— what a powerful talk! 15:57:21 From Rae Walker To All Panelists : Thank you Dr. Hatcher 15:57:21 From Lucinda Canty To All Panelists : Thank you Dr. Hatcher 15:57:29 From Nadia Green : Thank you, Dr. Hatcher 15:57:29 From Tracie Kirkland : Thank you Dr. Hatcher. I know i brought up that C-Sections are an issue for all--but i think it strengths the argument that some of these issues are not just centered on people of color. Maybe an article of this discussion could be pubished in Nursing Outlook article supported by the AAN. A transcript of this discussion would be fantastic. Please publish ASAP. Thank-you for inviting me. 16:04:53 From Kimberley Jones To All Panelists : Wow. Wow wow wow. Being blamed for our own oppression. So powerful 16:05:20 From Barbara Hatcher : What WEB DuBois described as “two ness.”2 Thoughts, 2 unreconciled striviI gs and 2 Warri g ideas. 16:06:14 From Efe Osaren : yes. I've experienced this 16:06:15 From Barbara Hatcher : 2 unreconciled striving and 2 warring ideals. 16:06:27 From Miriam Bender To All Panelists : hello panelists, I am not going to time anymore, this is all to powerful to stop. I will let the audience know there might be less time for Q&A but we can stay over time to address their questions 16:06:37 From Ruth Staus : "Body becomes a useful force only if it is both a productive body and a subjected body" Michel Foucault 16:06:53 From Kurt David : As a PhD student I really appreciate this discussion 16:07:10 From Tracie Kirkland : Yes, this is important. Thank you for transparency. 16:07:22 From Rachel Kerr To All Panelists : There is no neutral! 16:07:54 From Katie Romich : "Call it racism. Call a spade, a spade. Not a big spoon." Excellent presentation. 16:10:08 From ALBA LOPEZ : Daniel que alegría verte! 16:10:23 From Nadia Kazmie : “Academic environments were never meant for BIPOC peoples” - how profound this sentiment 16:10:48 From Gayle ACTON To All Panelists : Hi Daniel, so good to see you! 16:11:03 From Ruth Staus : The epistemology of nursing, developed by old, rich, white, cisgender women, does not allow for the interrogation of colonialism, neocolonialism, racism or racialized capitalism. 16:11:54 From Lakesha Rivera : 👏🏾👏🏾 Excellent! These presentations are speaking volumes. 16:13:06 From Alison Holman : how naive 16:13:37 From Alison Holman : Kudos to you for sticking with is Daniel 16:13:41 From Heather DiCioccio : Daniel- thank you for being here. I am continuously amazed at how faculty who are mono-lingual speakers of English, which is the least complex language in the world, believe themselves to be superior to their students and colleagues who are fluent speakers of numerous languages. 16:18:19 From Gayle ACTON : Daniel I am so proud of you. Such eloquence and truth 16:18:23 From Savina Schoenhofer : A novel truth - people from some cultures WANT to be identified, not hidden behind pseudonyms 16:18:30 From Dr. Lisa Bourque Bearskin (She/her) To All Panelists : Wow.. 16:18:35 From Kim Kim : Hermano estoy tan inspirado!!!!
