You are cordially invited to our Gold Bag Speaker Series: One Thing After Another: Scholarship On Violence And Abuse

This presentation will explore how a focus area—in this case, violence and abuse—informs a variety of nursing research and scholarship. The value of mixed and qualitative methods for exploring complex issues will be demonstrated through examples from the speaker’s own work. Strategies for dealing with sensitive research issues, vulnerable populations, and marginalized areas of study will be discussed, as well as issues including grant writing, research justification, and publication in such areas.

Candace Burton, PhD, RN, AFN-BC, AGN-BC, FNAP

UCI Sue and Bill School Gross School of Nursing

Dr. Candace Burton received her PhD in Nursing Research in 2010 from the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Burton’s major interest area is in relationship or intimate partner violence and the long term effects thereof in women’s live. She studies this in the context of adolescent and young adult health from a biobehavioral perspective, including exploration of genetic and epigenetic data, mental health, reproductive and sexual health, gender, and sexuality. She is particularly interested in the overall health outcomes of women who experienced the trauma of an abusive relationship and/or sexual assault as teenagers.
