Kyle Stanford, Shifting Incentives and the Closing of the Scientific Mind.

P. Kyle Stanford is a professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of California, Irvine.  He has written widely about a variety of topics in the history and philosophy of science, especially concerning the nature of theoretical scientific knowledge.

In this talk, he will suggest that changes in the incentive structure of science over the course of its history have increasingly favored theoretical conservatism and intolerance of theoretical heterodoxy, and he will propose some potential remedies for the prevalence of these features in contemporary scientific communities.
