UCI School of Nursing pick up their skills totes, which were donated by the community on Giving Day.

On the first day of school at the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, students received a nice surprise: an essential skills tote from a donor.

The skills totes are a critical piece of a nurse’s education. Every student receives one on their first day of class and the tote remains with them until they graduate.

Without a tote, nursing students would not have the tools to learn essential nursing skills such as inserting Foley catheters, starting IVs and taking blood pressure.

Typically, each tote costs $125. This expense can be a burden for many students. Donors on Giving Day understood and felt the financial burden of our students who also struggle with unemployment, health disparities and limited resources.

The school’s goal on Giving Day this year was to raise enough funds to gift every student with a tote. Thanks to generous support from the community, the school far surpassed its goal and raised $24,601 from 60 gifts.

Thanks to our supportive community, our students will learn our community believes in them and have invested in their future.

Very special thanks to our generous community and leadership supporters, who provided challenge gifts that made it possible to reach our goal:
