UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is proud to announce that two of our SON Faculty have recently been inducted into the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN): Dr. Susanne Phillips, Clinical Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, and Dr. Dave Holmes, Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Student Affairs. FAAN inductees are recognized for distinguished achievements in education, management, practice and research. Dr. Phillips and Dr. Holmes join four other UCI SON FAAN members: Dean Adey Nyamathi, Dr. Allison Holman, Dr. Lorraine Evangelista, and Dr. Melissa Pinto.

“I am absolutely honored to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing,” says Dr. Holmes. He feels that the honor is not only a recognition of his own career accomplishments, but also a reflection of the overall quality of the work being done, collaboratively, at UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross SON. “Our school of nursing, and UCI, can be extremely proud to count a significant number of Fellows of the AAN, a highly sought-after and important distinction in nursing.”

Dr. Phillips was equally honored to have been recognized by the American Academy of Nursing for her achievements and contributions to nursing. “I look forward to contributing my expertise in health policy to improve access to cost-effective healthcare through policies that reduce regulatory burden and recognize all healthcare providers,” she says. Phillips also believes that receiving this honor helps the school to recruit students and other top faculty. “As a young and developing school of nursing, recognition of faculty by professional academies, associations and societies demonstrates excellence and leadership,” says Phillips. “Fellowship recognition validates distinguished careers in research, education, policy development and practice.”
