UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing Dean Adey Nyamathi visited Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on March 25, 2019, as part of a contingent from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. During the visit with two of Senator Dianne Feinstein’s staffers, Dr. Nyamathi and deans and directors from other Southern California schools of nursing discussed the critical need for the Senator to co-sponsor Title VIII programs and restore proposed cuts to funding for the National Institute of Nursing Researcher NIH Institutes. Dr. Nyamathi had another opportunity to advocate for Title VIII programs when she visited Representative Katie Porter’s office, during which local Orange County and UCI issues were also discussed.

“Federal funding for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs is critical to our nursing schools, students, and faculty, as we prepare a highly-educated nursing workforce and promote the health and well-being of patients who experience health disparities,” says Dr. Nyamathi. “These Capitol Hill visits are important to our School of Nursing so that we can remain front and center in the nursing policy conversation.”
