Dorothy Tu Appointed Assistant Dean

Dorothy Tu

We are pleased to announce that, after serving in an interim role, Dorothy Tu has been appointed assistant dean for the UCI Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. Effective immediately, Dorothy will serve as the senior administrative officer and chief operating officer for the school. She will also be a core contributor in the development of new degrees and programs, and will serve as an advisor to the dean in the school’s current and long-range academic plan.

In addition, Dorothy will provide leadership for managing human resources issues for both faculty and staff, advise key administrative personnel on school operations and programs, and manage school of nursing facilities, including the capital planning and development of the new Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing Health Sciences Building. She will also serve as a member of the UC Irvine College of Health Sciences leadership team.

Dorothy has continuously demonstrated excellent leadership qualities during her career at UCI. As interim assistant dean, she played a pivotal role in assisting the nursing science program in securing UC Regental approval and official designation as the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. She was also responsible for working with campus leadership to develop the 10-year strategic plan for school designation, which, according to Dorothy, was one of the highlights of her career.

Dorothy has extensive experience in financial analyses, operations, and planning from her prior positions in the UC Irvine Health Division of Gastroenterology and the business development office. Her in-depth understanding the university and her expertise in nursing will be instrumental as she oversees the administrative functions of the school including strategic planning, operations, academic degree programs and clinical faculty practice.

Before joining UC Irvine in 1999, Dorothy served in a variety of leadership roles in healthcare, in both private hospitals and Federally Qualified Health Centers. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Health Administration from Cornell University.

Please join us in congratulating Dorothy on her appointment.
