Clinical Professors Susanne Phillips, DNP, APRN, and Susan Tiso, DNP, APRN, from the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing, have been selected for induction into the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). The 2017 Induction Ceremony will be held during the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) National Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Thursday, June 22.

Phillips, the associate dean of Clinical Affairs at the UCI School of Nursing, was recognized for her leadership and outstanding contributions to health care through policy and education. Tiso, the director of the school's Master’s Nurse Practitioner program, was recognized for education and clinical practice.

“Fellows of AANP are visionaries who strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and their role in the delivery of health care on a national and global scale. As AANP Fellows, Professors Phillips and Tiso will continue the tradition of impacting national and global health through their outstanding leadership and research contributions,” said Mary Jo Goolsby, EdD, MSN, NP-C, FAANP, FAAN, principal at the Institute for NP Excellence and FAANP chair.

"The fact that we have two members of our leadership team inducted to FAANP speaks volumes about the quality and the passion of the nurse practitioners we have here at the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. Highly capable, Susan and Susanne demonstrate the dedication and commitment to enhancing the educational and curricular expertise required to deliver the high quality, cost-effective, comprehensive health care that will drive the future of nursing in this country and beyond," said Adeline "Adey" Nyamathi, newly appointed dean of the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing at UC Irvine.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) is the largest professional membership organization for nurse practitioners (NPs) of all specialties. It represents the interests of more than 222,000 NPs, including more than 67,000 individual members and 200 organizations, providing a unified networking platform and advocating for their role as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, comprehensive, patient-centered and personalized health care. The organization provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.

Susanne Phillips is a family nurse practitioner and clinical professor at the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing where she serves as associate dean of Clinical Affairs. In recognition for her contribution to NP policy and education, Phillips has received numerous awards including American Association of Nurse Practitioner's Advocate State Award for Excellence in 2017.

Susan Tiso is a clinical professor at the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing with a proven record of successfully combining teaching and clinical practice. Tiso leads the UC Irvine Nurse Practitioner program. She currently presides over development of the proposed Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree slated for introduction in 2018.
