2nd Annual Future Health Champions Field Trip – El Sol Science and Arts Academy

2nd Annual Future Health Champions Field Trip - El Sol Science and Arts Academy

On June 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing will proudly host fifty middle school students from El Sol Science and Arts Academy in Santa Ana at the 2nd Annual Future Health Champions Field Trip. Planned and coordinated by the school’s undergraduate and graduate nursing students, the El Sol students will spend the day exploring the UC Irvine health sciences campus and engaging in fun, hands-on activities developed by UCI students and faculty.

Designed to introduce young students to careers in health sciences, the program will include tours of the nursing school’s Medical Education Simulation Lab and the Pediatric Exercise Research Center.  Students will also participate in a vital signs and critical care workshop. They will observe sheep and cow heart dissection, and learn first aid and splinting, anatomy and ultrasonography, microscope skills and partake in a hands-only CPR training.

Throughout the day, the middle school and their chaperones will make meaningful connections with health sciences students and faculty as they learn clinical skills and tour UC Irvine's beautiful campus together. Before the students leave, nursing school Dean Adey Nyamathi will join El Sol's Executive Director Monique Daviss in sharing some final remarks with attendees at Berk Hall.
